Developing an intimate umbrella formula for intangible services

Electricity is a low interest commodity in the mind of the consumer. In the competitive energy market, energy group Nuon signified the need to stay relevant to its audience. The brand had to become more intimate by offering value added products and services in a shop formula. Nuon asked VBAT to develop an umbrella brand for services such as heating, home security and a 24-hour domestic emergency response service. These services were then activated into a retail platform, both online and offline. The challenge was to create a recognisable, tangible and appealing concept for these intangible services. VBAT created a cross-channel platform with a high street presence; Europe's first energy shop. Combined with a retail shop-in-shop offer, packaging, promotional and online support, this platform is now a major pillar in the market offering of Nuon.
