VARA

Generating a symbolic podium sympathetic to varying public views

The role of broadcasting companies in the Netherlands has changed radically over the last decade. The original association with political parties is no longer relevant, reflecting the change in attitude of the general public. As the VARA had always been associated with the socialist end of the Dutch political spectrum, they also had to rethink their image and identity. The VARA sees itself as facilitator of debate, providing a relevant podium where difference of opinion is nurtured and propagated. The multi-faceted nature of society and its differing points of view are symbolised by a cube with various colours. This basis forms the conceptual source of all new communications, from the corporate style to the Internet and the VARA subscribers magazine.
